Sertoli cell only syndrome in testis, light micrograph - stock photo
Light micrograph of Sertoli cell only syndrome. Males with infertility or other testicular abnormalities may show Sertoli cell only syndrome. This pathology consists of the absence of germ cells or the cells which become sperm from the testis. Instead, the seminiferous tubules (curved tubular structures) of the testis are filled with Sertoli cells (dark blue dots), which do not have the capacity to develop into sperm. Also visible in this image is connective tissue (light pink strands) and a few blood vessels (bright red) in between the tubules. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section. Magnification: 200x when printed at 10cm
