Prickly pear, or tuna fruit, a thorny desert plant and fruit. Sabra (Hebrew : tzabar), is also an informal slang term referring to the Jews who had been born in Ottoman Palestine, in Mandatory Palestine or (after 1948), in Israel. The term alludes to the tenacious desert plant with a thick skin that conceals a sweet, softer interior. The cactus is thus compared to Israeli Jews, who are supposedly tough on the outside, but delicate on the inside.
