PSEUDOSTRATIFIED CILIATED COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM with numerous GOBLET CELLS lining the TRACHEA, 100X - stock photo
PSEUDOSTRATIFIED CILIATED COLUMNAR EPITHELIUM with numerous GOBLET CELLS lining the TRACHEA, 100X. This image appears to be stratified with many layers of cells, however, all of the cells touch the basement membrane hence the prefix Pseudo (or false). Many Goblet Cells are present--they secrete mucus which traps particulates which are swept away from the lungs by ciliary action. Underneath the epithelium is a supporting connective tissue.
