An alligator faced down a wake of vultures in a nature preserve in Lakeland, Florida, snapping up a dead turtle from right under the scavengers' beaks. Jesse Mckelvey told Storyful he and his girlfriend were exploring the Circle B Bar Reserve on February 19 when they saw a "monstrous 14-foot gator" approach a group of vultures, who had been pecking at a dead softshell turtle. The giant reptile promptly "stole the dead softshell from the birds and began crunching it and slinging pieces off the carcass to devour," said Mckelvey.
