UTTARAKHAND, INDIA - AUGUST 20: Approximately 200 people sustained injuries in the "stone pelting" ritual as part of Bagwal Fair in Devidhura village of Uttarakhand province in India on Tuesday (August 20).A sizeable crowd of participants hurled fruits at each other while some attempted to protect the team members using wooden shields.The injured received treatment in the nearby hospitals following the ritual.Bagwal Fair is an annual festival held at Devidhura Temple in the state of Uttarakhand.The fair has its roots in an Indian myth involving the customary sacrifice of a man for goddess Barahi every year.According to the myth, an elderly woman once reluctantly agreed to sacrifice her only grandson to appease the goddess, but was granted the chance to redeem his life by offering an equivalent amount of blood.The myth gave birth to Bagwal Fair, where people began to throw stones at each other to offer their blood to goddess Bahari.
