Archaeologists in Peru discover thousand years old mummified remains

LIMA, PERU - APRIL 24: Archaeologists in Peru revealed the remarkable discovery of mummified remains believed to date from the 900s and 1200s AD, on Monday (April 24).The mummy was found at the Centro Arqueologico de Cajamarquilla in the San Juan de Lurigancho district of Lima city.We are at the Cajamarquilla Archaeological Complex. We have just found a perfectly preserved adolescent from the entire season of the archaeological project, said Yomira Huaman Santillan, archaeologists from San Marcos University.Currently, we are with a team of archaeologists from San Marcos University, Ayacucho, and Villareal, and we are going to remove this body from one of the underground tombs where it was found, she added.In an impressive archaeological find, researchers from the renowned Cajamarquilla Archaeological Center have discovered the well-preserved remains of a mummified individual from the Late Intermediate Period.The discovery, believed to date from the 900s and 1200s, sheds new light on ancient Peruvian history and provides invaluable insight into the lives of those who lived in the region more than a thousand years ago.The mummified remains were unearthed at the Limas prized site of Cajamarquilla, recognized for its rich archaeological heritage.The individual is believed to have lived during the Late Intermediate Period, a critical era in Peruvian history that marked a transition between the decline of the Moche civilization and the rise of the Inca Empire.
