Arizona Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari speaks in floor remarks in firm opposition to the Republican passage of the so-called SAVE Act, an act of legislative voter suppression designed to combat a non-existent problem, as non-citizens were already prohibited from voting under federal law and instances of fraudulent non-citizen voting were exceedingly rare, yet Republicans passed a draconian bill that would make it extremely difficult and costly for service members, married women and disadvantaged Americans to register to vote by requiring them to present birth certificates matching current IDs without exceptions for the 70 million American women who changed their married names, while also mandating in-person visits that would disenfranchise deployed service members and Native Americans in rural areas.
