Arizona Senator and Iraq War Veteran Ruben Gallego says at a news conference on the Putting Veterans' First Act that he and other soldiers returned from war as reservists, their end date concluded, their pay stopped, no one offered jobs, some became homeless, and the worst feeling was that after sacrificing for the government in some of the hardest combat of the war, they were thrown aside because they weren't convenient anymore, with the DOD unable to house them on base for one more month or provide one more paycheck, which was the worst feeling a veteran could have—the same feeling being inflicted now on veterans at the VA and across the country who dedicated time away from family and their whole soul to this country only to hear they were no longer convenient.
