Ukrainian sappers clear mines in Sviatohirsk

SVIATOHIRSK, DONETSK, UKRAINE - MARCH 9: As the fierce fighting continues in eastern Ukraine, mine disposal teams clear mines in recaptured settlements in the region.On Thursday (Mar. 9) Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) videoed mine clearance works in Sviatohirsk, Donetsk Oblast, and interviewed with mine explosion vicims in a hospital.Once so picturesque it was nicknamed the "Switzerland of the Donbas" was under control of Russian forces for nearly 100 days. The city of Sviatohirsk, recaptured by the Ukrainian Army in mid-September.One of the mine explosion victims, Sergey who has been under treatment in the hospital told AAVN that he lost his leg was after stepping on a mine in his village.“On the 7th of March I went to my village house to do some gardening. It happened around 16:00. I was cleaning dry leaves from the trees and didn’t notice the mine. I heard a loud explosion and the following moment was knocked down. I understood what happened when I looked at my foot. I didn’t notice the mine because it was of brown color,” he explained.Sergey said he thought the are were clear of mines, because they removed lots of mines before the explosion, noting that the mine possibly felt from the tree.“Doctors say it will take me around 14 weeks to recover... I have to go through a long rehabilitation course. I also have to buy a prosthesis,” he added.Another victim Olexandr, forester from the village of Yarovaya said he was injured on the 18th of January, the day before Epiphany when he went to the well in the forest to take some water.
