Grape harvest in France: Production falls 18% compared to last year
TOURNON-SUR-RHONE, FRANCE - SEPTEMBER 20: As the grape harvest begins this week in various vineyards, including Burgundy, Beaujolais, and the Rhône Valley, the Ministry of Agriculture has announced its harvest forecasts. In 2024, the expected yield is projected to be 39.3 million hectoliters, representing a significant decline of 18% compared to last year.Claude, a grape harvester, noted, "We go back ten years in terms of grape harvest dates. It rained, it was cool but you see: it's clean, it's healthy."Winemaker Dominique Corbis said, "I think the harvest will be of very respectable quality this year. In quantity, we won't fill the cellar. We are short of it because it was cold during flowering. We had very strong pressure in mildew, just like the rest of France."
