Bomb threat made during Friday prayers at Washington, DC mosque

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES - AUGUST 18: A bomb threat was issued to the Mohammed Mosque (Masjid Muhammad) in Washington, DC as worshipers conducted Friday prayers.Police, who responded to the mosque after the threat was made, interrupted the Friday prayer and evacuated the congregation. As a result of the search, it was understood that the report was baseless.Washington DC Metropolitan Police official told Anadolu that upon the tip, they went to the mosque as quickly as possible and the congregation was evacuated immediately, just in case.In the statement, it was stated that after the special bomb team and bomb search dogs who came to the scene, it was understood that the report was unfounded.Mosque imam Yusuf Selim also said that the police came during the sermon and that they received a bomb threat against the mosque and that he asked for help in evacuating the mosque for the safety of the community.Explaining that Mohamed Abdulmalik, the security chief of the mosque, asked the congregation to evacuate the building immediately, Selim emphasized that the police dogs did not enter the prayer area.Selim said that the bomb experts concentrated on the area where the report was made, and when it was understood that the report was unfounded, the congregation re-entered the mosque and performed the Friday prayer.Pointing out that such threats are always present, but for the freedom of worship of the congregation, Selim said the authorities should take this matter seriously.(Footage by Mostafa Bassim/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
