Beloved Gray Whale Exhales Rainbows Off San Diego Coast
A California whale-watching tour guide recorded footage of one of his favorite whales exhaling off the San Diego coast, with the spray causing beautiful rainbows. This footage was taken by Domenic Biagini, of Gone Whale Watching San Diego, and shows the whale, nicknamed Scarback, coming to the surface to breathe. Biagini told Storyful that Scarback was ,a true icon of a whale!, Scarback, whose official name is Scarlett, https://www.individuwhale.com/whales/scarlet/ is believed to have traveled to the Pacific Ocean all the way from the Russian Arctic. Though the cause for her injury has never been confirmed, the most popular theory is that she was struck by a harpoon. ,We encountered her on a recent tour,, Biagini said, ,where we are happy to report she,s looking nice and healthy as she makes her migration south towards her winter breeding grounds off the coast of Mexico … Her scar is a reminder of how resilient these animals can be when given a chance!, The whale was first sighted in the Pacific Northwest in 1996.
