Queen Elizabeth II died at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8, 2022, and is succeeded by her eldest son, King Charles III. Whilst Uganda is part of the Commonwealth, Uganda became independent in 1962, Elizabeth II remained head of state as Queen of Uganda until the link with the British monarchy was severed on October 9, 1963.
