INTERVIEW - Jimmy Carter, America's 39th President, Dies At 100
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - DECEMBER 30: (COMPILATION) (INTERVIEW) Catherine, a local neighbor, pays her respects and thanks to former President Jimmy Carter on December 30, 2024 in New York City. In February 1984, President Jimmy Carter took a busload of volunteers on Trailways Bus to an uninhabitable building at 742 East 6th Street in the East Village of Manhattan. The six-story brick building off of Avenue C and D was renovated by a fledgling group called Habitat for Humanity. Carter remembered, "It was filled with debris. Eventually, we got 42 people that went up on Trailways bus and had one of the most remarkable experiences of our life. I'd never dreamed, at that point, it might become an annual affair that has just enriched our lives in many ways." Carter died yesterday at 100 years old. (Footage by Sandi Bachom/Getty Images)
