SANTA ELENA, COLOMBIA - OCTOBER 22: A Colombian young man continuing his life on a wheelchair due to an accident worked hard despite all the difficulties and won a special award in the Flowers Festival in Medellin.Juan David Gallego Atehortua, 24, was involved in a cycling accident two years ago, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down.Despite all the difficulties, Atehortua has never given up his passion that made him happy and participated in Medellin's annual flower festival even in his wheelchair.“One year and eight months ago, I had an accident in an extreme sport, which is called as downhill mountain biking, that caused paraplegia at t4 level in my legs. But, this has never prevented me to continue the Silletera culture, which I liked,” he saidAtehortua said he started his design at the hospital and at that time his design was not even in the competition categories.“As a matter of fact, in the hospital, I made the decision to design a Silleta that is adapted to a wheelchair. It was not in the clauses of the Silleteros but I took the risk. And now I am the founder of this category.
