Surgeon General nominee Means discusses allegations of violating FTC rules by promoting products without disclosure with Senator Murphy at confirmation hearing
Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy says US Surgeon General Casey Means seems to be in regular willful violation of FTC rules which is concerning given the focus on restoring trust in the medical profession, noting over and over again she seems to be at scale recommending products without telling her followers despite having 200,000 newsletter subscribers and almost a million Instagram followers, pointing out in only three out of 14 times when she was promoting daily harvest did she disclose that she was getting paid by them, with Means responding she has a strong feeling the way Murphy's staff gathered this data was done intentionally to create these claims, noting if it has inadvertently happened she would rectify that immediately while taking conflicts of interest incredibly seriously and working diligently with the Office of Government Ethics to make sure conflicts are addressed thoroughly.
