New York City Delivery Workers Band Together In High Crime Area To Avoid Robberies
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK - JULY 15: A delivery worker waits for a traffic light before crossing the Willis Avenue Bridge next to a banner that reads "Robo Y Asalto Alto! Cruzen En Group / Robberies And Assaults STOP! Cross in Groups " on July 15, 2021, in New York City. Delivery workers gather at the bike entrance of the Willis Avenue bridge in Manhattan before crossing into the Bronx in groups to stave off muggings and assaults. The group of delivery workers has been gathering for the past 30 days urging fellow delivery workers to cross the bridge in groups after multiple assaults and muggings for their e-bikes and wages. The poorly lit and desolate crossing has made delivery workers easy targets. A member of the group shared the workers have had to use these preventative measures due to the lack of response of the New York City Police Department.
