A dog's stray paw could have caused disaster when it set a stove burner going, but at least her howls alerted her owners of the danger, when they checked in over a pet cam. Connor Barry and his wife were out doing laundry when they decided to check on their dog, Vanilla, using a camera they had installed just a few days earlier in their New Hampshire home. They noticed the dog was howling, and, just as they were about to log off, Barry's wife noticed smoke in the video feed. Vanilla had jumped up onto the stove and accidentally turned on a burner, igniting a towel that had been left on the stovetop. The couple rushed home, watching live footage from the camera as smoke filled the kitchen and the fire alarm went off. Barry arrived just in time, as the towel began to burst into flames. A salt shaker on the stove had already melted by the time he got there, he said. 'Please childproof your stove and buy a pet camera,' Barry wrote on social media. 'We are so lucky.'
