Chinese people demonstrate in London to commemorate victims of Tiananmen massacre

LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 04: Dozens of activists staged a demonstration in the British capital on Saturday to commemorate the victims of the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre.Chinese people, members of Amnesty International, and various non-governmental organizations gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy in London.The demonstrators, holding banners reading such as "Human rights for the Uighurs" and "Free Hong Kong", condemned the violent suppression of protests in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 1989, where 2,000 people died.They called on the international community to stand up to China's ongoing human rights violations.The demonstrtors also placed candles in front of the embassy yo honor the victims.The police intervened some protesters who were demonstrating with a symbolic Chinese military tank.On June 3 to 4, 1989, Chinese troops moved towards Tiananmen square of the capital Beijing -- where thousands of demonstrators led by students were protesting the government for improved living standards and better political freedom -- and used force to disperse the protestors.According to the Chinese Red Cross, more than two thousand protestors were killed on the eve of military intervention that included tanks and troops.q(Footage by Bilal Acar/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
