Indonesia’s National Zakat Board launches free tattoo removal program during Ramadan

JAKARTA, INDONESIA - FEBRUARY 24, 2026: Dozens of people underwent free tattoo removal procedures on Tuesday under a program organized by Indonesia’s National Zakat Board (Baznas) at the Masjid Agung Sunda Kelapa in Jakarta.The initiative aims to help Muslims remove tattoos as an act of repentance and spiritual renewal during the holy month of Ramadan.Medical workers used laser technology to carry out the procedures.Organizers said the program is targeting up to 700 people during Ramadan. It is funded through public donations and zakat contributions. In addition to the medical procedure, participants also receive religious counseling and health consultations as part of what organizers describe as a comprehensive physical and spiritual support program.Ramadan is widely observed as a time of reflection, self-improvement and charity.
