Choking driver saved by Istanbul traffic police after pulling into emergency lane

ISTANBUL, TÃœRKÄ°YE - (RECENT, 2026): A driver who began choking on a piece of candy while navigating Istanbul traffic was saved by quick-thinking police officers after he managed to pull his vehicle into the emergency lane.The driver, identified as Ekrem Ozpinar, was traveling through the Bagcilar district when the candy became lodged in his throat, completely obstructing his airway.Realizing he was losing the ability to breathe, Ozpinar steered his car into the emergency lane and signaled for help to traffic officers stationed nearby.One of the officers found Ozpinar gasping and unable to speak, then he applied the Heimlich maneuver.(Footage by Engin Zafer /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
