Drone captures stunning ancient healing temple Asklepion in Türkiye

IZMIR, TÜRKİYE - NOV. 27: A drone footage captured by Anadolu on Nov. 27 shows the historic beauty of the Bergama Asklepion Archaeological Site in Izmir, western Türkiye.The ancient Pergamon Asklepion was once one of the most important healing centers of ancient Greece and continues its mission by hosting health-related organizations today.A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2014, the Bergama district of İzmir attracts both local and international visitors with its rich archaeological remains from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman periods.Asklepion, founded in the 4th century BC in honor of the Greek god of healing, Asklepios, retains its historical grandeur.Asklepion also served as a medical school where Galen, one of the most important physicians of ancient Rome, was educated. It is recognized as the site of the world's first psychotherapy hospital.In addition to psychotherapy and physiotherapy, the healing center used methods such as water and mud baths, massage, medicinal herbs, music, various rituals, sleep chambers and the sounds of water and birds to aid treatment.In recent years, the number of visitors to this unique place has increased steadily.
