TUC Congress: Ed Miliband gives speech; Miliband speech SOT- Extraordinary, that I have to tell this historical lesson from the past but I do- Current leader of the Conservative party David Cameron, he writes you off, he writes your members off- He oozes contempt for trade unionists from every pore of his being- He said the movement was a threat to our economy- Back to being the enemy within- 6.5 million people, who teach our kids, look after the sick, care for the eldery, who build our homes, keep our shops open- How dare he say they are a threat to our economy- Your members are the back bone of Britain and lets not forget it [applause]- Earl of Derby would be tuning in his grave- We have experience from recent political history to know what happens when a political leader writes off a whole section of society- Mitt Romney... that is what happened to Mitt Romney- Lets make sure the same thing happens to Cameron at the next General Election [applause]- I am a one nation politician- We need to hear the voices of your members and people who are not members- I want to different relationship with unions- People ask me why it is necessary- We have 3 million working men and women affiliated to our party- I am proud of that link- The problem is the vast majority of them play no roles in our local parties- They are affiliated in name only- that wasn't the vision of the founders of our party- It's not my vision or your vision either- I want each member to be a real part of our party, a real voice in our party, based on an active choice to be part of our party- It means we can be a Labour Party not of 200,000 people but of 500,000- A living breathing movement, the vision of our founders- It's a massive challenge to make this kind of change- Part of responsibility of Labour party is to reach out to your members and persuade them to be part of our party- Some people say it is a risk- It is- But I believe the bigger...
