Budapest Pride Parade Goes Ahead Despite Ban
BUDAPEST, HUNGARY - JUNE 28: Eduardo Rubiño, Yolanda DÃaz, Pablo Bustinduy and other politicians and activists pose for the cameras before participating in the LGTB Budapest Pride Parade on June 28, 2025 in Budapest, Hungary. Early in 2025, Hungary passed a law restricting the freedom of assembly by connecting it to a previous law from 2021 prohibiting the public portrayal to children of 'divergence from self-identity corresponding to sex at birth, sex change or homosexuality'. Consequently, events such as Pride marches are illegal in the country. The LGBTQ+ community are defying the ban and holding their Pride event on the streets of Budapest.
