Well our suspicisions were aroused some time ago that at certain football matches doping had become rather customary so we set up a committee under the doctor on the FIFA executive and he established a committee here in England, one at each subseat where precautions will be taken, when if there is the slightest suspicion that a player or players have been doped they will be taken to the dressing room and tests made, and the result of those tests will be sent immediately to a laboratory where the analysis will be made and the result of that again will be sent to us here at headquarters. (Q: How easy is it to tell if a player has been doped?) That I don't know because when I refereed matches I don't think they ever doped, but we still have to establish, I think, or any medical committee we set up has got to establish, what is doping - what constitutes it. Some people of course, I know when I played tennis myself if I used to take glucose, some people in the team used to suck barley sugar, and I suppose perhaps a shot of whiskey at halftime in the tea would constitute some sort of stimulant, but drugs are the thing of course, which we particularly want to avoid our players taking. (Q: If a player turns up in an exceptional performance will he be in danger of being .....?) Good heavens no, I hope that if Jimmy Greaves scores three goals nobody will rush on the field and take him in to the dressing room and take tests because they think he's been doped. I mean he won't have been.NEG: 16mm: ITN(Page): 1.35mins: 59.5ft:10.7.66 / 9.55pmn: Opt. Track:Also Print:
