- [On kitchen sink realism] One thing he was not was kitchen sink realism, he was over the top, fantasy sex violence ... Was on a mountain with Oliver Reed in 1968, ... He went, and the first thing they did was 'Women in Love' where they had this nude wrestling ... He went up or down whichever way you'd like to view it, a great talent ...
- [On his impact on the industry] No one copied him ... it was so unique, I don't think he had an influence beyond his period of success
- {on Russell going off the boil] A film director is a whore, we're all whores ... he was offered scripts he couldn't do in his outrageous way ... 55 other directors could have done them, all directors go off the boil ...
- [On his flamboyance] His private personality was very charming ... he annoyed a lot of people ... you can't keep annoying employers ... None were big financial successes ...
- [On thinking again about his brilliance] It's ridiculous, British film industry likes order, nice people ... Ken was crazed ... Makes the British film industry uneasy, he didn't fit in/ Of course he is [undervalued], his contribution is absolutely unique ... Films were not enormous successes ... Not a mass following ... We got on very well, quite different as film makers, but I adored him, a great loss to the industry ...
