Freshman Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff tells Attorney General nominee Merrick Garland at Senate Judiciary Committee nomination hearing that Black Americans continued to endure profiling and harassment, brutality and discrimination in policing the prosecution and sentencing and incarceration, asking how Garland would use the immense power of the Office of Attorney General to make real America's promise to deliver equal justice for all, Garland calling that a substantial part of what he wanted to be Attorney General, deeply aware of the moment the country was in, the department having a lot of things to do with the problem of mass incarceration, over incarceration of American citizens with disproportionate effect on Black Americans and communities of color and other minorities, different ways to try that disproportion given data on crimes not committed by those communities in any greater number than in others, to charge similar crimes in the same way.
