Interview with U.S. Senator Howard Baker

POV from behind "Lawmakers" hosts Paul Duke and Linda Wertheimer seated, looking at U.S. Senator Howard Baker (R-TN) for interview. Wertheimer: "Senator Baker, when the House sends the tax bill back to you, we've heard from some of the Republicans that they're not so sure they're going to vote for it this time, as they did when it left the Senate on its first trip. Can you pass the tax bill when the House returns it?" Sen. Baker states his belief that the tax bill will pass the Senate, though it won't be easy, likely passing by a few votes. Baker thinks he'll have most of the votes he had last time, plus a couple Democrats may vote for it. Wertheimer, off camera: "Do you have any assurances from Democrats that they're going to help you out?" Baker replies that he does not, but changes made to the tax bill in conference were attractive to a few Democrats, they may vote for it. Wertheimer, off camera, comments personally that this should suffice for the portion of the show on taxes. Sen. Baker comments "that didn't take much", and Wertheimer replies they're "easy to please". Duke, off camera, to Wertheimer: "We can get something from [U.S. House Representative Robert] Michel (R-IL)."
