London Film Festival: Gala closing night screening of 'Babel' / interviews with director and cast; Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Director) interview SOT- Basically the film is about vulnerability, fragility, hope / Want to find stories where I can explore the themes that interest me / Immigration, terrorism, fear Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu interview SOT- (Asked about the ambitious scale of the film) Many times I felt frustrated and exhausted / It was an emotional journey / Took me one year just to shoot the film / It was a hard task / You confront difficult times / That is part of making films / That's the deal / Sometimes you go up into the mountains and you are short of breath and think you will never make it / But am glad I am here at the London Film Festival with the film finished / Pronounce the film 'babble' / However you want to say it / (Asked about the siignificance of the title) For me the Tower of Babel is in the Old Testament and Muslims, Jews and Catholics share the Old Testament story about people trying to build a tower to reach heaven / God punished the people by destroying their language and so collapsing their civilisation / Babel was a good metaphor / One of the themes I am exploring is lack of communication / Brad Pitt has a good sense of humour and he was very nice and it was great / (Asked about Oscar buzz around the film) Well you never know / That is not a good sign sometimes / Awards are something you can do nothing about / If they arrive it is a great gift / But there is nothing to do about it
