General Election 2010: Brown Speech at Royal Institute; Gordon Brown speech continued SOT- I've had privilege of working with Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of internet- I see huge possibilities for Britain to lead in next phase of digital revolution - we are investing in getting high speed fast broadband to every community of the country- we believe it will be a great liberating feature of people's lives... but also because hundreds/thousands of businesses can grow out of it- Berners-Lee will head an institute to develop next generation of internet- We are supporting it with additional 30m pounds- will be joint project with two great universities- Tim has made me understand something I wasn't good at understanding before- He's talking about moving from first generation to new generation- moving from web of linked files to managing data- He calls it the Semantic Web- Tim achieved making invention available to public in every country as a public good- Because he refused to patent it and make it available to everyone it became a public good - I believe second generation of internet could be like as well - Salk was Polio vaccine inventor, he refused to patent it- When asked why he said because how can you patent the sun- Something that is so much the public good, it would be irresponsible- I see great future for us in this areaCUTAWAYAudience listening - see science benefiting from digital revolution- Huge numbers of jobs for Britain- Am I optimistic for Britain?- We can learn, we can change the way we do things- Recognise govts have responsibilities- You can also say Britain's' inventiveness is going to lead the world in the future if we can work together- My message is optimism about a great future for our country by working togetherVarious shots of audience applaudingAPPLAUSE
