Thank you for what you do everyday, I talk about the Big Society, you ARE the Big Society / I've just been with Boris Johnson and found a way not to be overshadowed by him ... gave him the microphone that didn't work ... A few weeks ago, I spent some time with Matthew Bolton ... took me to Ocean Estate in east end of London ... Heard some of you speak about the work you do ... I now know what to say to the cynics and smart alecs who say there is no appetite for people to get involved in social action ... What rubbish that is, I say to those people come here, look around you, here is the appetite, here is the ... spirit ... , here is the Big Society right here in this room ... We can build the Big Society because people want change for the better ... You don't get that just from the govt, ... more tax credits and govt schemes, more laws and initiatives from the Home Office ... We will only achieve those progressive aims ... if we understand we are all in this together, not just the individual and the state, but we the people working together, real change does not just come from govts passing laws, but when people come together and work to make life better ... We will create a better future if 60m citizens play their part / Big Society does not mean govt doing nothing ... we are setting out our side of bargain ... a contract with the voters so everybody can hold us to account ... otherwise vote us out in 5 years time ...- We will throw open public services and invite charities, faith groups, neighbourhood groups to ...
