Northern lights illuminate skies across US and Europe
ALASKA, US - NOV. 11: A geomagnetic storm on Tuesday, Nov. 11, causes the Northern Lights to appear across wide areas of the United States and Europe.According to the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Kp index values reached 8+, classified as a “G4 severe” storm, making auroras visible as far south as mid-latitudes.Confirmed sightings are reported from several US states, including Alabama, Arkansas, northern California, Colorado, Indiana, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and the Texas Panhandle. In Europe, the auroras are observed across the United Kingdom — especially Scotland and Northern Ireland — as well as in Ireland and Iceland.Experts say the geomagnetic storm may continue intermittently through the night and recommend viewing from dark, clear areas away from city lights.(Footage by Hasan Akbaş /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
