Great Kiskadee (Pitangus sulphuratus) feeding in moist Atlantic forest. - 4K stock video

A medium-sized bird, the bem-te-vi measures between 20.5 and 25 centimeters in length and weighs approximately 52-68 g. It has a brown back and a bright yellow belly; a white stripe (eyebrow) on the top of the head, above the eyes; black tail. The beak is black, flat, long, resistant and slightly curved. The throat (area just below the beak) is white. It has a yellow forelock that is only visible when the bird raises it in certain situations. Its characteristic trisyllabic song is reminiscent of the syllables bem-te-vi, which give the species its name. Therefore, its popular name has an onomatopoeic origin. There are several species of tyranids with the same color pattern, among which 4 are particularly similar to the bentevizinho: the neinei (Megarynchus pitangua), the bentevizinho-do-brejo (Philohydor lictor), and the two bentevizinhos of the genus Myiozetetes, the red-cockaded marshmallow (Myiozetetes similis) and the ferruginous-winged marshmallow (Myiozetetes cayanensis). The neinei is the same size as the bentevizinho-do-brejo, but has a larger and much wider beak. The bentevizinho-do-brejo is more slender, smaller and has a proportionally thinner, flatter beak. The Bentevizinhos of the genus Myiozetetes are smaller, have a conical and proportionally smaller beak and less defined white eyebrows.
