Peruvian government restricts Venezuelan migrants’ entry to country
LIMA, PERU - JULY 4: A group of Venezuelan citizens formed a line outside the Venezuelan embassy on Thursday (July 4) in Lima, Peru over the recent immigration measures. The recent immigration measures by the Peruvian government, effective from July 2, require Venezuelan citizens to present a valid visa and passport to enter the country. This decision, enacted by the Peruvian government, aims to regulate and manage the migration of citizens from Venezuela more effectively.“It affects us because previously we could enter the country with an expired passport, but now we can't,” said Rosa Blanco, a Venezuelan immigrant.Another immigrant Marco Pinedo stressed that he understands why the Peruvian government implied new regulation.“But they must consider how this affects Venezuelan families and us, who are already millions in Peru and form an important part of the country,” he added.Large groups of Venezuelan citizens have been flocking to the Venezuelan embassy in Lima to regularize their immigration status through temporary or residency permits.
