CALIFORNIA, USA - MARCH 02: Heavy snowfall has stopped life in California as millions of people in the West coast of the United States have been stuck in the grip of snow due to the rare snowstorm.Anadolu Agency Video News (AAVN) videoed snow-blanketed areas around Lake Donner in the town of Truckee located on the slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California on Thursday (Mar. 2).The National Park Service said on Wednesday that the snowstorm has dropped 15 feet of snow in some areas of the Yosemite Park.Cars and houses were buried in up to 12 feet of recent snowfall, leaving snow as deep as 15 feet or more.On Wednesday night, Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in California ahead of yet another bout of unusual winter storms expected to pummel the region over the next several days to mobilize emergency resources."Governor Newsom has declared a state of emergency in multiple counties following several large, damaging storms that have left much of our state to dig out," said Alicia de la Garza with the California Office of Emergency Services in a video statement.The state of emergency encompasses 13 counties that have already been battered by the recent storms and are expecting another barrage of crippling winter weather.Damage from the severe weather system is expected to surpass $1 billion dollars.(Footage by Tayfun Coskun/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
