EXT DAY MS Hero Cop of the Times Square Bomb Plot incident, Wayne Rhatigan comments on what he did to thwart the incident. Wayne comments, "Once the vendor alerted me that a car was smoking, we went over there, we smelled gunpowder, with my partner Pam Duffy. We knew something was up as soon as we smelled the gunpowder. There were two rookie impact officers on the scene. With their help we started a perimeter and it just is a combined effort of everybody, its just what we do." There was an attempted car bomb that occurred in Times Square in New York City, and it was thwarted when two street vendors saw smoke coming out of the car when it failed to explode. They contacted a police officer immediately, who called for backup, the bomb disposal team, and the fire department. Faisal Shahzad, a 30-year-old Pakistan-born resident of Bridgeport, Connecticut, who had become a U.S. citizen in April 2009, admitted to the attempt of the car bomb, and was sentenced with a life in prison.
