High temperatures and heavy rainfall caused a glacier to partially collapse on September 9 in Queulat National Park, in the Patagonia region of Chile. The collapse was captured by Pablo Ignacio Sanhueza Lara, who was taking a group to visit the site. Sanhueza Lara told Storyful that he recorded the video at 1:52 pm, local time. "On the journey to the park, we heard some loud noises that seemed to come from the inside, so we went to check," he said. "I had never seen anything like that before." In the footage, the glacier can be heard rumbling before eventually breaking off, with a downpour of ice filling a valley. "One of the consequences of global warming is that it is destabilizing several glaciers and in particular some unstable glacier walls," he said. Cordero added that a heat wave with "very abnormal" temperatures hit that area of Patagonia before the collapse.
