Larry Ellison, CEO of the software company Oracle and currently the richest man in the world, has invested £1 billion to build the Ellison Institute of Technology (EIT) in Oxford. The research institute is a collaboration with Oxford University which will use technology to address global challenges in health, food security, and climate change. Alongside the EIT project, which some have dubbed the next Silicon Valley, Ellison is also investing in significant historical and cultural sites in Oxford, such as the refurbishment of The Eagle and Child pub, known for being the meeting place of literary greats including C.S.
