House Appropriations Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch Chairman David Valadao and Librarian of Congress Robert Newlen discuss the impact an AI platform would have on the Library and whether it would streamline and expedite services provided to Congress, with Newlen responding the library has embraced AI since the very beginning with staff being very creative in applying it to a whole range of work processes and services to enhance service to Congress but they have only used existing funds and have pretty much hit a roadblock because they need a larger platform in order to train AI models, citing Congressional Research Service as an example where members and staff are requesting more analysis of big data and they have the right people to do it but do not have the platform.
