Representatives Dellums and Stokes Speak to Media

U.S. House Representatives Ron Dellums (D-CA) and Louis Stokes (D-OH) speaking to media on the U.S. invasion of Grenada. Rep. Stokes continues speaking on safety concerns regarding U.S. nationals and medical students in Grenada, and goes into a couple of specific instances that lend themselves to "the murkiness around the question". He recounts Major General Edward Trobaugh's (Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division) report that after the drop into Grenada, once the airfield was secured and American planes had landed, the medical students at the True Blue campus were secured. However, it was another three days before the students at the Grand Anse campus were evacuated. There, apparently, was no concern of invasion at that time. Rep. Stokes also notes the testimony from U.S. Consular officials and the Vice-Chancellor of the St. George's University Medical School, Dr. Geoffrey Bourne. Dr. Bourne's stated that immediately after Grenada's Prime Minister, Maurice Bishop was killed, he was contacted by General Hudson Austin, head of the Revolutionary Military Council. They met at Dr. Bourne's house, where Gen. Austin assured him that the medical students were in no danger.
