Speaker Johnson notes Obamacare subsidizes health care for wealthy as repeal and replace infeasible on 16th day of shutdown

House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana says answering a reporter question at a morning news conference on day 16 of a government shutdown that people probably did not know they were subsidizing other people's health care with that subsidy as premiums have risen by some estimates 60 percent since Obamacare was enacted in 2010, and there is no way to repeal and replace it because it is too deeply ingrained so Republicans are the ones with ideas to increase access to care and bring down cost, not the Democrats who gave us this problem, and with 535 members between House and Senate this very complicated issue cannot be guaranteed an outcome by four people in a back room as it requires the member driven consensus process.
