Ukrainian citizens gather in Istanbul on 2nd anniversary of Russia-Ukraine war

ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE - FEBRUARY 24: In Istanbul's Beyoglu district, Ukrainian citizens organized a poignant protest on Saturday, marking the second anniversary of the Russia-Ukraine war. Gathering in Odakule Square, demonstrators held aloft banners adorned with images of children and soldiers tragically lost in the conflict. The protest echoed with impassioned slogans, emphasizing the innocence of children in times of war, the unwavering commitment to victory, and the determination to reclaim every inch of Ukrainian soil. Slogans such as "Children need childhood, not war," "We will fight until victory," and "Believe in Ukraine, act for democracy" reverberated through the square, capturing the fervent spirit of the gathering. The members of the United Circassia Council and the Crimean Turks Culture and Mutual Aid Association stood in solidarity with their Ukrainian counterparts, underscoring the breadth of support for the cause. Russia launched its "special military operation" in Ukraine exactly two years ago, on Feb. 24, 2022. The Russian officials said they are ready to start peace talks with Ukraine, however, Kyiv's self-ban on contacts with Moscow has prevented their beginning.
