PARATY, BRAZIL - MAY 24: Indigenous leader Apohinã Pataxó blows a mixture of smashed herbs through the nose of Pataxó cacique Nawã Pataxó using a tube as part of a ritual to clean body and spirit on May 24, 2021 in Paraty, Brazil. The Pataxó Hã Hã Hãe live in a village 30km away from the historic center of Paraty, in the coastline of the state of Rio De Janeiro. The community has 62 members from 15 families. Before the coronavirus pandemic, they made a living offering tours around their village and selling handicrafts to tourists. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, their income sources have been affected as the number of visitors plummeted from 200 to zero per day. They have launched an online campaign to raise donations while they await for more help from the government.
