HEBRON, PALESTINE - SEPTEMBER 17: Israeli forces on Friday (Sept. 17) intervened in an anti-settlement rally in the locality of At-Tuwani, south of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, injuring some protesters and detaining several activists, according to local media.Fuad al-Amur, Coordinator of the Palestinian Local Committee for Protection and Resistance said three Palestinians who were directly hit by the gas canisters were injured by the Israeli soldiers.Quoting the head of At-Tuwani Village Council, Mohammad Rib‘i, the Palestinişan WAFA News Agency says "Heavily-armed Israeli troops assaulted the participants of in the rally with rifle buts and opened fire towards them, causing a number to suffer from bruises and dozens of others, including international activists, to suffocate from tear gas."The agency also says a 38-year-old protestor was hit by a concussion bomb in the abdomen and subsequently rushed to a hospital.The demonstration was held to protest the expansion of the nearby colonial settlement of Havat Maon at the expense of the villagers’ lands in Shi‘b al-Butum.Located 14 kilometers south of Hebron, the At-Tuwani locality consists of two hamlets, and together with Masafer Yatta, a collection of almost 19 hamlets, cover 37,500 donums and rely heavily on animal husbandry as the main source of livelihood.Located in Area C of the West Bank, under full Israeli administrative and military control, the area has been subjected to repeated Israeli violations by settlers and soldiers targeting their main source of living - livestock.Area C is currently home to 300,000 Palestinians, comprising Bedouin and herding communities who mostly live in tents, caravans, and caves.
