DeForest Kelley Talks About Being Directed By His Costars
DeForest Kelley: It's, it was interesting with Leonard because he was the first, you know, I suppose every actor sat back and said, gee, I wonder why he did it that way or I would have done it this way. It did seem strange to have another actor telling you and said of course we all know our characters so well that we generally know what we're going to do, but there does come a time when direction comes into play. Alright. Alright. Yeah, that's odd, you know, to see your fellow actor telling you, but I have respect for both of them. And you know as the old Scottish saying says, if only we could see ourselves as visitors see us. So I take it and I take very graciously. Unless I'm absolutely adamant about it. Interviewer: And can you be that way? Do you feel free to be absolutely adamant? If this is wrong, you're gonna say no. Oh, yes. DeForest Kelley: Oh yes, yeah. If I feel this absolutely wrong, I'll put up a big fight about it, you know. And then usually they'll do it both ways and then print the way they want it. Interviewer: To appease you.DeForest Kelley: Yeah.
