James Chuter-Ede on Timothy Evans case, UK; 1965
James Churter-Ede on the possibility of a fresh enquiry into the death of Timothy Evans - Evans had lived in a different flat in the same house as John Christie - both had been convicted and hanged as murderers, but Evans was later thought to be innocent - Chuter-Ede had authorised the execution of Evans in his former role as home secretary - to the question of why he wants the government to look into the matter again despite having authorised the execution, he says, 'Well I think there's a great deal of public misgiving about the whole matter, and I think the public are entitled to such reassurances as can be given to them.'
