James Ralston speaks of Dieppe Raid in Northern France

CU James L. Ralston, Canada's Minister of National Defense, seated at desk, talks / CU SOT Ralston speaks of Allied Forces in the Dieppe Raid, their cooperation and valor; "The army salutes the sister services. It was a triumph of coordination. We grieve the loss of the gallant men who gave life itself for us on the beaches of Dieppe. At the going down of the Sun, and in the morning we will remember them. We join in the sorrow of those whom they have left behind. Dieppe is the spirit of Canada. Those beaches where our young men battled the enemy are the front line of Canada's defense. For this is Canada's war - not because Canadians willed it, but because it was the only alternative to national humiliation and individual slavery under the most monstrous and brutal tyranny that has ever been let loose upon this earth. Dieppe epitomizes valorous deeds, undaunted resolution and unselfish sacrifice. And the men of Dieppe challenge those of us at home to show a fighting spirit just as unconquerable, just as determined and just as bold as theirs" / Note: exact day not known; film has nitrate deterioration
