CU SOT John W. Meyer, Publicity Director for Howard Hughes, testifies before the Senate Special Committee to Investigate the National Defense Program: "Public relations is a nebulous statement; you do a lot of things." Voice of Sen. homer Ferguson: "What were your duties? You must have had a conversation about what your duties consisted of." Meyer: "I would do whatever Mr. Hughes asked me to do." Voice: "Your job was really to do what Mr. Hughes asked you to do." Meyer: "That is right." Voice: "And did that consist of entertaining any Army officers?" Meyer: "That consisted of doing most of the things that Mr. Hughes would not have time to do." Voice: "Well, my question is now, did you - was one of your duties t entertain Army officers?" Meyer: "Yes." Voice: "And Navy officers." Meyer: "Right." Voice: "And other public officials." Meyer: "Right." / CU SOT Meyer: "Basically every Navy officer." / MS Committee sitting around table / MS Meyer listening voice of Sen. Ferguson saying: "Colonel [Elliott] Roosevelt and this group of Army officers wanted to go through movie studio, is that what -" / CU SOT Meyer: " I assume they did." Voice: "Did you take them through a movie studio?" Meyer: "I don't remember, but I presume that I did." Voice: "All right, go ahead now. Do you want to answer further?" Meyer: "The fact that you now refresh my mind, I think I took them through a Warner Bros. Studio." / CU SOT Meyer: "Because I introduced her to him." Voice: "Oh. That is first-hand knowledge. You introduced Miss Emerson [Faye Emerson, Roosevelt's wife] to Roosevelt." Meyer: "That is right." Voice: "Where was that and when?" Meyer: "I believe, it was, you asked me earlier if he had gone through a studio. I think she met him in the commissary of Warner Bros. Studio." / Note: exact day not known
