Far-right riots: Keir Starmer statement; ENGLAND: London: Westminster:INTSir Keir Starmer MP (Labour Party leader) statement SOT- I utterly condemn the far-right thuggery we have seen this weekendBe in no doubt: those who have participated in this violence will face the full force of the lawThe police will be making arrestsIndividuals will be held on remandCharges will follow / and convictions will followI guarantee you will regret taking part in this disorderWhether directly or those whipping up this action online, and then running away themselvesThis is not protest / it is organised, violent thuggeryAnd it has no place on our street or onlineRight now, there are attacks happening on a hotel in RotherhamMarauding gangs intent on law breaking / or worseWindows smashedFires set ablazeResidents and staff in absolute fearThere is no justification – none – for taking this actionAnd all right-minded people should be condemning this sort of violencePeople in this country have a right to be safeAnd yet, we’ve seen Muslim communities targetedAttacks on MosquesOther minority communities singled outNazi salutes in the streetAttacks on the policeWanton violence alongside racist rhetoricSo, no, I won’t shy away from calling this what it is: Far-right thuggeryTo those who feel targeted because of the colour of your skin, or your faith, I know how frightening this must beI want you to know this violent mob do not represent our countryAnd we will bring them to justiceOur police deserve our support, as they tackle any and all violent disorder that flares upWhatever the apparent cause or motivation we make no distinctionCrime is crimeAnd this government will tackle itThank you
