SNP leadership election 2023: Kate Forbes interview; Part 4 of 4SCOTLAND: INTKate Forbes MSP (SNP Leadership Candidate) interview SOTQ: JUST TO BE CLEAR, IF THE SNP AND OTHER PRO-INDEPENDENCE PARTIES GET MORE THAN FIFTY PER CENT AT THE NEXT ELECTION YOU WILL TAKE THAT AS A MANDATE WILL YOU FOR INDEPENDENCE- I think we will take it as a way of putting more pressure on the UK government, to illustrate the fact the people of Scotland want independenceQ: WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCES BETWEEN YOU AND NICOLA STURGEON- I think you've probably covered some of them in this interview / I guess I'm from a different generation; I turned 17 in 2007 when the SNP first came to power / my generation has grown up thinking independence is normal; previous generations probably had to be persuaded that independence was even an option / my generation thinks it's normal / it's about taking it from that normality to delivering / secondly, I'm from the Highlands, so I've got perhaps a slightly different perspective on Scotland / I grew up abroad; I grew up in India where I was face to face with poverty on a daily basis / there's differences there, I don't think there are any doubts about that / ultimately if we're going to deliver independence what you need is a leader that inspires confidence across Scotland / she did inspire confidence, I think she's obviously decided to pass on to another generation, my aim would be to inspire that same confidenceQ: DID YOU GIVE YOU A HEADS UP SHE WAS GOING TO GO- She didn't, but bear in mind I was on maternity leave, probably as she resigned singing nursery rhymes with my six month baby, oblivious to what was happening in the political worldQ: DO YOU CONSIDER HER A FRIEND- I consider her a wonderful individual / I don't know her terribly well outside work, I've only got to know her fairly recently serving in her Cabinet / she has been nothing but supportive and kind; if any young women wanted a role model, they could...
